Kimball Powers Beyond Pesky First Half Roosevelt Defense
Dallas - In what was surely a tale of two halves, Kimball pulled away from Roosevelt in the second half Friday night to earn the 42-6 victory at home.
It almost felt scripted the way Kimball went ahead 14-0 in front of an excited Homecoming crowd, but it was short-lived. Roosevelt, a team that has experienced a few frustrating losses this season - appeared poised to fight to the finish of Friday nights’ competition. A long drive and touchdown pass into the corner of the end zone gave the Mustangs even more reason to hope. Even with the failed two-point attempt - the defense took to the field energized.
Kimball advanced the ball on a long drive, inching closer and closer to the goal line as the clock crept towards halftime, however, the aggressive Roosevelt defense denied the Kimball offense any points whatsoever.
The teams entered the half with Kimball holding on to a slim 14-6 lead. It truly was anyone’s game as the two teams ventured to their respective locker rooms.
Roosevelt, however, would not score again Friday night.
Kimball completely dominated the 3rd quarter. The teams traded possessions, both yielding different results. While Roosevelt’s players fell to the turf writhing in both pain from cramps and frustration from a growing sense of another defeat - Kimball’s players were collecting turnovers and finding the endzone.
An interception by Shawn Wright as the 3rd quarter expired allowed Kimball to finish the 3rd quarter with a comfortable 42-6 lead.
