SOC Dominates in Fifth Consecutive Championship Appearance

For the third time in five consecutive seasons, the Golden Bears of South Oak Cliff (SOC) found themselves in a familiar place to close out their season – the UIL Class 5A Division II State Championship.

This year – the Golden Bears were determined to leave the field hoisting the winning state trophy.

Much of the city followed the Oak Cliff team to Arlington’s AT&T Stadium Saturday morning, and SOC didn’t disappoint its fans. SOC scored first and would never trail. They went on to defeat the Lions of Houston’s Richmond Randle 35-19.

Senior running back Mikail Trotter was without a doubt – the highlight of the South Oak Cliff offense. He ran for 143 yards and scored three touchdowns – each over 30 yards. Trotter would go on to earn the game’s Offensive MVP honors.

The South Oak Cliff defense did an incredible job of containing Randle and star junior running back Landen Williams-Callis. The Randle offense didn’t score an offensive touchdown until late in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided.

Baylor-commit Jamarion Phillips led the South Oak Cliff defense with 13 tackles and an interception.
