Wings Lose Close Game to Aces
Las Vegas - The Dallas Wings (1-11) had every opportunity to end the losing streak Friday night, but couldn't overcome a late-game collapse against the Las Vegas Aces (5-4).
Dallas dominated the third quarter 30-15, with Arike Ogunbowale having one of her best games as of late, scoring 26 points. She was joined in offensive assertiveness by both Dijonai Carrington (15 points) and rookie Paige Bueckers (16 points). With A’ja Wilson sidelined due to concussion protocol, Dallas was in position to take the win, however, a 15-0 run with no timeout called by Coach Kris Koclanes stalled the effort.
"I think it was a disconnect all over," Ogunbowale shared on the fourth quarter collapse. "We kind of started holding the ball a little bit. This is on all of us."
Luisa Geiselsoder finished the game with 13 points on 6-6 shooting from the field. Friday’s game is her last for the Wings until early July, as she leaves to participate in the 2025 FIBA Women’s Eurobasket.
"It's tough to leave the team right now,” she shared post game. "I think our team chemistry is great. I honestly have a lot of fun with this team."
Frustration with the coaching boiled over from Wings fans following the loss, many fans pointing to the serious conversation between Carrington and Koclanes. The conversation ensued when Koclanes refused to challenged a call at Carrington’s request.
"I'll look in the mirror and I'll be better for us moving forward,” Koclanes says. "It's just discipline down the stretch - we have to be better. I could've been better in putting them in better situations."
Dallas faces Golden State at home on Tuesday.
