Discard the Women

One of the most painful realizations for me has been discovering just how undervalued women are in the world. One of the most angering and frustrating feats has been watching so many strong and worthy women relinquish their power because of the obstacles that stand in the way. Living in such a progressive place like America, yet knowing that many men in power positions exist non other than for the reason of holding women to inferior roles has been incredibly disheartening.

As more and more cases of sexual misconduct are coming to the forefront, I can’t help but replay the trite expression that was on repeat throughout my childhood, my adolescence and even still in my 30s:

 Boys will be boys.

America doesn’t care about American women, much like third world countries don’t value their women. We live in an America that will defend the rape and assault of women, while in the same breath create a victim’s narrative for the male assailants. We even have a president who supports these practices, by mocking victims.

Spike Lee did an incredible disservice to moviegoers with the film “Chi-Raq,” but he may have been on to something with the film’s theme.

What do men seek most in women? Sex.

When sex isn’t freely given – many men will bully, mock, threaten and inevitably take what they want.

The solution says the corrupt conservative – outlaw abortion. Imagine for a moment if abortion were illegal and more women began to abstain from sexual acts that cause pregnancy. The number of rape cases would likely grow. And then within our judicial system, we would have “men” who support a no-abortion under any terms America, and also believe in not smearing the names of “good working men.”

Perhaps this is the America Childish Gambino should’ve emulated in his popular song and video earlier this year.

Women are the bearers of children, the underpaid, and the discarded in this country. This is not some whiny rant – these are facts. Women are in danger in America.

Anyone who isn’t a feminist needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror. None of this is radical feminism. These are facts.
